It's so depressing lying in bed for hours, trying to get comfortable enough to fall asleep. The sound of the furnace blowing the warm air into your room and the little blue nightlight you have on the wall is a constant reminder of why it's so hard to sleep. You're glad you're wrapped up in your blue blanket, warm and tired after a long day. But you can't sleep. That hollow void inside you is as sharp as the winter's bitter air against your bare cheeks. You've spent your life trying to fill that empty void with material possessions and friends who always said they cared. You're like one big puzzle with a tiny missing piece. You're incomplete. No matter the size of the piece of the puzzle it's so ugly in the eye of the beholder that when they look at that void they cringe and walk away, trying to forget they ever saw that hollow body with a smiling face. You lie in bed and more thoughts float through your head. The furnace has stopped now, and the slight breeze from the crack in your windowpane is making you uncomfortable. So you seek refuge in the one thing that will make you happy and keep you company in the long hours of the night. Your arm reaches across the bed, only to find the sunken mattress and soft pillow. You turn, grasp the pillow and hold on for dear life and promise yourself, "I won't let go this time."

another sleepless night...
